The Texas Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Adult Residents Amendment was not on the ballot in Texas as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 7, 2023.[1]

The amendment would have authorized a property tax exemption equal to the general school district residence homestead property tax exemption on the market value of a real property inhabited by a disabled adult. The general school district residence homestead property tax exemption is currently $40,000.[2]

To put a legislatively referred constitutional amendment before voters, a two-thirds (66.67%) vote is required in both the Texas State Senate and the Texas House of Representatives.

This amendment was introduced as House Joint Resolution 150 on March 6, 2023. On April 24, 2023, the state House passed HJR 150 by a vote of 142-2 with six not voting.[1]
