The Texas Parental Right to Direct Child's Education Amendment was not on the ballot in Texas as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 7, 2023.[1]

The amendment would have established a right in the Texas Constitution for parents or legal guardians to direct their children's education including choosing an alternative to public school, accessing public school teaching materials, attending school board meetings, and accessing the child's student health records.[2]

To put a legislatively referred constitutional amendment before voters, a two-thirds (66.67%) vote is required in both the Texas State Senate and the Texas House of Representatives.

This amendment was introduced as Senate Joint Resolution 29 on January 12, 2023. On April 19, 2023, the state Senate passed SJR 29 by a vote of 21-10.[1]
