Laws governing ballot measures in New Mexico
In New Mexico, citizen have the power to repeal legislation via veto referendum.
The New Mexico State Legislature may place measures on the ballot as legislatively referred constitutional amendments, legislatively referred bond measures, and legislatively referred constitutional convention questions. Constitutional amendments and bond measures require a simple majority vote in each chamber during one legislative session to be placed on the ballot. Constitutional convention questions require a two-thirds (66.67%) vote to be placed on the ballot. Bond measures require the signature of the governor to appear on the ballot. The governor may use a partial veto to remove certain projects from bond measures.
