Laws governing ballot measures in Illinois
Citizens of Illinois may initiate constitutional amendments to amend Article IV of the Illinois Constitution. In Illinois, citizens do not have the power to repeal a law via veto referendum.
The Illinois State Legislature may place measures on the ballot as legislatively referred constitutional amendments, legislatively referred bond measures, and advisory questions. Referred amendments require a 60% supermajority to be placed on the ballot.
