Francis Suarez ended his presidential campaign on August 29, 2023.

In Miami, we stopped waiting for Washington to lead. America’s so-called leaders confuse being loud with actual leading. All Washington wants to do is fight with each other, instead of fighting for the people that put them in office.[1]
—Francis Suarez[2]

Francis Suarez (R) was the mayor of Miami, Florida. At the time of his campaign, he had served in the position since 2017. He officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on June 15, 2023.[2] Suarez suspended his campaign on August 29, 2023.[3]

In his campaign announcement video, Suarez highlighted his experience as the mayor of Miami, Florida. He highlighted a city program that helps teach students about financial literacy by helping them open savings accounts, lower taxes and higher tax revenue in the city, a low unemployment rate, new construction developments, and a reduced homeless population.[4]

Before serving as mayor, Suarez served on the Miami Board of Commissioners. He founded Edge Title Company and worked as an attorney with the law firms GrayRobinson and Greenspoon Marder.

2023

  • August 29, 2023: Suarez suspended his campaign. In a statement, Suarez said, "While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains. I will continue to amplify the voices of the Hispanic community - the fastest-growing voting group in our country. The Left has taken Hispanics for granted for far too long, and it is no surprise that so many are finding a home in America’s conservative movement. Our party must continue doing more to include and attract this vibrant community that believes in our country’s foundational values: faith, family, hard work and freedom. Younger voters, Independents, urban voters and suburban women- all of whom I've carried in previous elections - among others, should find a comfortable home in the GOP and its policies."[6]
  • August 21, 2023: The Republican National Committee said Suarez had not met the criteria to qualify for the first Republican primary debate. Suarez responded, saying, "I am sorry that this debate will not include my perspectives from the largest growing voting block in our country - young, conservative Hispanics.
