Daniel McKee (Democratic Party) is the Governor of Rhode Island. He assumed office on March 2, 2021. His current term ends on January 5, 2027.
McKee (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for Governor of Rhode Island. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
McKee was sworn in as governor after former Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) resigned to serve as the U.S. secretary of commerce in the Biden administration.[1] McKee previously served as the lieutenant governor of Rhode Island from 2015 to 2021.
He was also the mayor of Cumberland, Rhode Island from 2001 to 2005 and 2007 to 2015. He first served in local government as a member of the Cumberland Town Council from 1992 to 2001.[2]
Biography
McKee was born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, on June 16, 1951. He received a bachelor's degree in political science and education from Assumption College and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School. McKee was a business owner for three decades in Blackstone Valley.[3][4]
Political career
Rhode Island Governor (2021-present)
McKee was sworn in as governor on March 2, 2021, following the resignation of Gina Raimondo (D), who left office after being confirmed as the U.S. secretary of commerce.[1]
Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor (2015-2021)
McKee was first elected lieutenant governor of Rhode Island on November 4, 2014. He was sworn into office on January 6, 2015, replacing his term-limited predecessor Elizabeth Roberts (D).[3]
