2014

Dodd's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[10]

Education

  • Excerpt: "I will fight to ensure that our schools are not only adequately funded but that the dollars are used in an efficient and effective method."

Water

  • Excerpt: "I will look for a long-term blueprint that ensures a sustainable water supply that is sensitive to our environment, supports agriculture and is in the best interests of all Californians, not focused mainly on Southern California. Specifically, that means a plan that would not adversely impact the Delta."

Agriculture

  • Excerpt: "There are four key policy components that affect agriculture – water, farm labor, crop value and environmental laws. These are four big issues that require careful thought and deliberate action."

Seniors

  • Excerpt: "Seniors deserve choice and I will work to restore services at all levels of care – independence, home health care, residential communities, skilled nursing facilities, hospitalization, and long term care with an emphasis on keeping seniors as close to their social support systems as possible."

Ethics

  • Excerpt: "That makes it easy for me to support recent proposals put forward by California Forward that reform legislative ethics laws, including creating an independent legislative ethics officer and giving legislative staff whistle blower protection."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in California

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
